LIFE
Written by Greger Ronnqvist
Life is the group that was the reason that Mellotronen started their small label. Although it would take 7 years before its release, it's finally here.
The group Life existed between 1970-72 and contained three guys who at that time were about 20 years old. Those three were the guitarist and piano player Anders Nordh (Trolls, King George Discovery, Blond) the bassist Paul Sundlin (Trolls, King George Discovery) and the drummer Thomas Rydberg (Rowing Gamblers).
Life played heavy progressive rock and was one of the heaviest rock groups in Sweden at that time. This album was recorded by EMI 1970 with Swedish lyrics, and the year after it was released in a version with English lyrics. On this CD it is the English version + their both singles. This is a fantastic album and when it was first released, many newspapers called it "one of the best ever done in Sweden". Now 27 years later you can only state that it's still a classic album in the Swedish progressive rock scene.
Here you can find many superb tracks like "Living is loving", "One Of Us" (a track very reminiscent to Landberk), "Jag fдrdas" (Man's Journey), "To The Country" and "Tro pе vеr vдrld" (Believe in our world).
Anders Nordh is something of a living legend in the Swedish progressive rock scene and has his own sound and way of playing guitar. Paul Sundlin is a very skilled bassist and together those two are doing miracles.
I have only to recommend this CD to all of you who are into early Swedish progressive rock.
If you can get hold of a copy of King George Discovery's "Music is Music" from 1968, get the chance to listen to it. This is Hendrix inspired music. Although it can be very expensive it's worth the money.
If you're into Anders Nordhs guitar playing you can also check out Bдttre lyss till den strдng som brast дn att aldrig spдnna en bеges LP from 1975. Also recommended! Although it's not as heavy as Life it's an underestimated album that also is rather hard to get a copy of.
Buy or die!
